My earliest and happiest memories included my grandfather and his small homestead and poultry farm in North Carolina. He and I spent a lot of time together enjoying the newly hatched chicks in the spring, eating warm tomatoes, fresh picked on a sunny day or relishing the fact that the clever, chicken-killing fox had finally been outwitted as the trophy tail was nailed on the side of the barn.
