Hello Sycamore Spring Farm Family CSA Members-
August 22, 2010- This is only the 2nd entry in the members only page, this season- because I have not been able to get the page to work properly and the gardens have kept me too busy to figure out why-until now. The last succession plantings have been completed for the year and that has allowed a little free time to work on the computer issues. I think I may have figured this thing out!?!?
Can you believe the season is in the 18th week!?!? I sure do hope that the rainfall will continue at adequate levels for the fall crops so we can end this season with a great harvest for everyone to enjoy.
NOTE****The Bountiful Season Program ends this week. This weekend will be the last pick-up for Bountiful Season's 9week run. THANK YOU ALL for supporting Sycamore Spring Farm. I know many of you will take a break in September and then be back on board with the 8week Autumn Harvest Program but we never say THANK YOU enough so THANK YOU for choosing Sycamore Spring Farm as your local, sustainable, small family farm.
ALSO remember that the 22week shares will end their season the last week in September (23,24 & 25th). More about that later.
Well, Maeve has said good bye to three of her puppies, Lassie, Ami & Lucas have gone to great farm homes and a fourth-Gus is to leave for his farm in a few days so the pack is getting smaller and smaller. I have really enjoyed these puppies and hope all of the members have as well. A special THANK YOU goes out to all the young members who spent time helping to "socialize" the puppies and the kittens on the farm this summer. You ALL did a great job....because of your help and love for the small animals, these are the cutest, smartest, best adjusted babies we have ever raised!!
HAVE you heard the BUZZ?? Our bees did so well this year that we will actually have a small amount of honey soon. We hope to include a small jar in your shares very soon!! If they keep up the good work....we should have Sycamore Spring Farm Honey for sale next year.
October 16 & 17 is the Frederick County Family Farm Festival Weekend. We are working on having a REAL Farmers market here at the farm that weekend as well as soap making classes, canning classes and a variety of awesome demonstrations going on. I will post more details as they materialize.
STAY TUNED....if I have this page working properly...you can check back for any/all farm updates
April 25, 2010- The 2010 CSA season begins this week. I hope to see (and meet) each of you as you receive your Week 1-assortment of farm and garden produce. Since we have more CSA members than ever and more member "share" selections than ever-Please be patient with us as we strive to ensure that every one is receiving the correct share size, egg or meat shares, etc. The first two weeks should work out any kinks in the system.
As I type this message I am still uncertain if the "Members only" pass word will work-I may just open it to the general public until we can figure out what the technical problem is. Most folks have signed up for their CSA programs by now and it should be pretty much members only visiting the CSA section of the site anyway.
This communications page was to be an important part of our program this year. It would have saved me from making many phone calls or sending more emails than necessary. The computer is great and I use it a lot December-March but by the time April moves around there is ZERO time for me to be on the computer except for a mass communication such as this forum.
So remember......Corporate Deliveries begin on Wednesday April 28 and the First Pick-up dates are Friday April 30 &. Saturday May 1st....UNLESS you are a Split share-some of you will not pick up UNTIL next week and Monthly shares-please remember to pick up ONLY on your assigned week. Week 1 is the first week of each month, week 2 is the second and so forth. Please try to stick as closely as possible to your pick-up time slots. That will help to prevent traffic & parking problems at the Farm. Pick-up times are Friday's 2:pm--8:pm and Saturday's 8:am-2:pm
We are working on increasing our parking area(s). There are several new parking spots directly in front of the garden near the road and several parking spots to the side of the farm lane-that is the entrance with the new stockade fencing. Either of those places are a little further to walk to the Summer Kitchen but it will decrease the liklihood of a parking jam in the main driveway. So please if the weather is nice try parking a little further away.
Also, a new, larger commercial refrigerator may be in the works. We are working on a "bartering" arrangement for it and hope to know something definate in the next week or so. If we are successful in procuring it-It's location will be in front of the "Summer Kitchen" that we currently pick up produce from. I'll keep you posted.
That's about it for now. Let's hope you all can read this information.
